If I Can't Dance...
From September 26 to November 9 2008, If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution presents in de Appel arts centre in Amsterdam the first episode of Edition III, focusing on the notion of the 'masquerade'.
Edition III, episode 1
The aim of If I Can’t Dance… to explore an alternative conceptual framework of the 'masquerade' can be read in the light of its continuing exploration, since its inception in 2005, of paradigms such as 'theatricality' (Edition I, 2005) and 'feminism(s)' (Edition II, 2006-2007). Edition III - Masquerade will touch on aspects such as rituals, gestures, normalized as opposed to transgressive behaviour, covert as well as manifest action and differing approaches to role playing, power positions and appearances.
The artists Keren Cytter, Jon Mikel Euba, Olivier Foulon, Suchan Kinoshita, Joachim Koester and Sarah Pierce are invited to produce new projects: to be developed within a two-year time frame; to be presented at the subsequent moments when If I Can’t Dance… visits international partner institutions.
Trajectory
After episode 1 this Fall in de Appel arts centre in Amsterdam, Edition III - Masquerade will have a sequel in episode 2 this winter in Sala Rekalde (Bilbao) and episode 3 in Project Arts Centre (Dublin) in the spring of 2009. The fourth and final episode will take place at the Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven) in Winter 2009/2010.
