RESEARCH PROGRAMME PIET ZWART INSTITUTE
PIET ZWART INSTITUTE, MAURITSSTRAAT 36, ROTTERDAM
In autumn and winter 2009-2010 If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution coordinated a research project on masquerade at the Fine Arts department of the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Writer and curator Lars Bang Larsen taught the monthly course. The sessions were organised around the lectures, the readings that participants were expected to do, and discussions between the participants. In addition to this, participants to the project were invited to the monthly If I Can't Dance Tonight performances at the Frascati theatre in Amsterdam. The day after, these were followed by a conversation between artist, a curator and the students and studio visits in Rotterdam.
As part of the programme, If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution presented a public series of screenings and lectures by Francesco Bernardelli (art critic and curator), Dominic Eichler (artist and writer), Yann Chateigné Tytelman (writer and curator) and Lars Bang Larsen (writer and curator), in the frame of the current edition focusing on the notion of the masquerade.
