On Saturday 7 July, If I Can’t Dance will host a Summer Open Reading Group exploring collective study as a bodily practice.
This Open Reading Group takes place within the frame of our current programme VII, (2017-2018) dedicated to the research field Social Movement, and will be led by artist Myriam Lefkowitz
, one of our four commissioned artists. The workshop, titled The Book Club: a space for collective study and experimentation
, feeds into Lefkowitz’ ongoing research into perceptive experiences that favor attention, trust, and the negotiation of emotions and relations.
This summer session is the second Open Reading Group of edition VII. You can read the summary of the first gathering that took place on 17 January 2018 here
. The third and final Open Reading Group dedicated to Social Movement will take place in January 2019.
With The Book Club Myriam Lefkowitz
aims to explore forms of collective reading and addresses the body as a space of understanding. Through proposing a series of actions and gestures, the workshop questions the distinction between body and mind, theory and practice, looking for ways to relate concepts with sensations, affects, perceptions, images, memories, objects, rhythms, space... as so many resources to unfold news modes of reading. The Book Club
, conceived in collaboration with philosopher Cécile Lavergne, will be co-led by Lefkowitz and artist Théo Robin Langlois.
The Summer Open Reading Group will be held Saturday 7 July from 12pm to 6pm at the If I Can’t offices, as well as a location nearby in nature. Participants will receive a detailed programme and having access to a bike is convenient for moving between sites. Participation in the workshop is free, however, registration is required as places are limited. To sign up please contact Anik Fournier: email@example.com
