as well as the David Harvey text which we somewhat ran out of time for. In doing this
we hope to focus more closely on arriving at a closer reading of
'appropriation' as a key term for the coming Edition V, as well as of the
globalising economic and political conditions amidst which 'Appropriation Art'
the next reading group we propose to look again at section 7 of the Graw text
'Dedication Replacing Appropriation' as well as pages 22-29 of the Harvey text
'Freedom's Just Another Word'.
support these readings we would like to propose the following four short texts:
- Section (3) & (4) from Karl Marx's 'Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts
(1844); footnoted in Graw's essay
- Excerpt from Allen Wood's 'Karl Marx' (1981), addressing 'appropriation' as it appears
in the writing of Marx
- Sherrie Levine, artist statement (1982)
- Barbara Kruger, artist statement (1982)
